Bagasse Hersteller aus Deutschland?

Bagasse manufacturer from Germany?

Environmentally friendly and sustainable: bagasse instead of plastic

Packaging, drinking straws, crockery and other utensils made from sugar cane – does that somehow sound like pie in the sky? And yet the raw material bagasse is not only on the rise in the packaging industry. That's a good thing, because the mountains of plastic that are created every year are a big problem for the planet and humanity. It's a miracle that something as simple as this eco-friendly natural product could solve the mystery. In fact, this raw material can be used primarily to produce disposable tableware and packaging material, which is not only environmentally friendly to dispose of and even recyclable, but also resource-saving in production.

The benefits of bagasse for packaging and tableware

Bagasse is a by-product or waste product of the sugar cane industry and consists of the fibrous residue that remains after the sugar cane has been pressed. The dry fibers are mixed with water and a biodegradable binder to form a homogeneous mass that can later be shaped as desired and then dried again to retain the desired shape. Due to its insensitivity to heat and cold, bagasse is suitable as packaging for food and as an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional disposable plastic tableware. This is not only banned in Germany anyway. In addition, this recyclable material is absolutely impermeable to water and grease and can therefore be used as packaging for drinks, soups and solid foods. Nowadays you can find the natural product bagasse in the form of bowls, cups and various take-away food packaging.

Compostable take-away packaging for the organic sector

If it is pure organic bagasse, these products are 100% biodegradable or compostable, have heat-storing, i.e. thermal properties and are amazingly stable. They are therefore particularly suitable for the organic sector, because here everything - not just the content - should be really sustainable and organic. Products made from sugar cane decompose completely, become valuable soil over time and are also CO²-neutral. More organic is really not possible!

No bagasse without sugar cane

Like many well-known types of grain, sugar cane belongs to the grass family. Bamboo is also one of the sweet grasses and is not only visually very similar to sugar cane plants. In order for sugar cane cultivation to be successful, certain conditions must be met. For example, sugar cane needs a tropical or subtropical climate with temperatures of around 25°C to around 30°C in order to be able to grow. The amount of precipitation must not be too low either and should be at least 900 liters/m² per year for sugar cane growing in Germany. Shortly before harvest, however, the plant needs rather dry, hot weather in order to be able to store and ripen the sugar optimally. Soil conditions also play an important role in sugar cane cultivation. This sweet grass thrives best in heavy, moist soil that is very nitrogenous, as nitrogen mainly promotes growth.

It depends on the raw material

Especially in organic cultivation, only organic fertilizers approved for organic cultivation may be used. Conventional cultivation methods, on the other hand, also allow synthetic fertilizers as well as herbicides and pesticides, which are then also found in the end product. Manufacturing in Germany offers significant advantages over foreign sellers or manufacturers, who are often based in non-EU countries and are subject to less strict conditions. Also, cultivation on sugar cane plantations does not always take place under environmentally friendly and humane conditions. If you value sustainability and eat health-consciously, you should also pay attention to the origin of the packaging material for disposable tableware and use organic bagasse packaging if possible.

Sugar cane cultivation: The most important cultivation countries

The countries with the most plantations for sugar cane cultivation are above all

1. Brazil (the world's largest producer)
2. India
3. China
Bagasse for tableware and packaging is also produced in these countries. In Brazil, the raw material is even used in industry as a fuel substitute for crude oil. So sugar cane bagasse offers much more than plastic-free disposable tableware alternatives.

    Bagasse raw material from Germany

If you need bagasse for packaging, plastic-free tableware and other products in Germany, you have to look around in the industry. This is because the raw material is used in many ways here. You can find the raw material from the sugar cane fibers as animal feed, for the production of pulp and as biofuel and even in the construction industry. So it is not always immediately visible, this valuable raw material that comes from the fibrous residues of the sugar cane juice production. For this reason, it is not yet known everywhere as an alternative to many plastics, but this is likely to change within the next few years if it continues to be used so widely as an environmentally friendly packaging material and for disposable tableware.

    Frequently asked Questions:

    1. Is bagasse tableware biodegradable?
If it is organic bagasse tableware, it is 100% compostable and biodegradable. Nevertheless, the rotting process - especially in Germany - takes a long time, so that you should dispose of products made from organic bagasse in the organic waste bin.

    2. How is the bagasse raw material made?
In the production of sugar cane juice, the dry sugar cane fibers remain. These are processed into a homogeneous mass with a natural, also degradable binding agent and some water. Packaging, crockery and other dimensionally stable products can then be made from this.

    3. What are the benefits of Sugarcane Bagasse?
The products made from this raw material are CO²-neutral, resource-friendly and environmentally friendly, both in terms of production and disposal. They are also heat-stable, microwaveable and resistant to fat and moisture.
