Protecting our environment and its resources is what drives us at wisefood every day. For us, it is an absolute necessity to consider sustainability when it comes to the future of gastronomy and events. That is why we rely on disposable tableware and packaging made from renewable raw materials such as palm leaf, sugarcane, wood, or bamboo – for restaurants, cafés, hotels, catering, or private and public events.
Whether street food, take-away, or equipment for an entire festival: we think in solutions, not standard goods. From small packages to containers, we supply every order size – and because not every application requires the same material, we look for the right fit for every purpose. The result is over 500 selected, field-tested products for serving, packaging, and taking away – everything from a single source, reliable in everyday life, and with an eye on the price – because we know what counts in the gastronomy sector.
wisefood became known for its edible straws, and our product range now includes many other items, such as edible cups and cutlery. Additionally, we are always looking for new ways to intelligently utilize agricultural by-products like palm leaves, sugarcane, or apple pomace: raw materials whose production requires no additional energy and that would otherwise be thrown away are given a second life with us.

Thinking ahead together
Since 2025, we have been part of the LEEF Blattwerk Group and are continuing our path under a new umbrella – but with the same drive: making packaging future-proof. Together, LEEF & wisefood are palm leaf pioneers and solution partners for the gastronomy industry: tableware, packaging, and individual concepts made from natural materials, from a single source. Our customers benefit from even more variety, new materials, and expanded logistics structures.
Our shops, our products, and our attitude remain – just with even more possibilities. And that is exactly why we have been awarded the German Sustainability Award 2026. This officially makes us “frontrunners in smart, environmentally and climate-friendly packaging solutions”! This recognition shows: our work with recyclable materials and the use of agricultural by-products is having an impact!

From idea to brand – the wisefood history
It all started as a student project – and within a few years, it grew into a fast-growing company. The starting signal: edible drinking straws made from apple fibers, the SUPERHALM. With this, we developed an edible alternative to plastic straws from a by-product of apple juice production – and immediately showed what we are about: conserving resources, relying on renewable raw materials, and leaving as few traces as possible. From this, a comprehensive range has grown: everything the gastronomy & events industry needs in terms of disposable tableware and packaging, from plates and bowls to cups and cutlery, and even candles, napkins, and take-away solutions.
wisefood became known through the TV show "Die Höhle der Löwen" and television programs like Galileo and the ARD Mittagsmagazin. We have been supported and honored with numerous awards such as Germany - Land of Ideas, TRANSGOURMET Newcomer Award, Top 50 Cleantech Startups, METRO NX FOOD, and the EIT Food Award. Our international expansion has also been supported by the German Accelerator, a support program for young German companies founded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
Today we supply gastronomy, events, retail, and bulk consumers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and more than 20 other countries. We have and have had many well-known customers, such as GORILLAS, ALDI, REWE, EDEKA, TRANSGOURMET, METRO, MIGROS.
